With measurement features available in Dino-Lite software (such as DinoCapture 3.0 for Windows), users can quickly and easily measure object width or distance, arc, circle, angle, and radius using ROI (Region of Interest) tools. This allows even complex-shaped parts or workpieces to be measured accurately during visual inspection with a Dino-Lite digital microscope.
Measurements can be displayed in multiple units, including inches, mils, millimeters (mm), and microns (µm), making Dino-Lite suitable for a wide range of inspection and quality control applications.
Types of ROI Measurement Tools in DinoCapture 3.0
The ROI (Region of Interest) feature includes five measurement tools:
- ROI Line
- ROI Arc
- ROI Circle
- ROI Angle
- ROI Roundover

Important Note: Calibration Before Measurement
Before performing any measurements, it is important to calibrate the Dino-Lite microscope to ensure accurate results. Calibration can be completed in just a few seconds using the Auto Calibration feature with a Dino-Lite CS-40 or CS-41 calibration slide. Easy Measurement for a Variety of Applications
1. ROI Line – Measure Part Width or Distance
Quickly measure the width of a part or the distance between two points. This is ideal for objects such as PCB traces, wire lengths, bolt segments, or small scale lines.
How to Use:
- Capture an image and open it in DinoCapture 3.0.
- Select the ROI Line tool to start measuring.
- Create four parallel points outside the part, covering its full width.
- The software instantly measures the distance and displays the result.

2. ROI Arc – Measure Radius, Length, and Angle of an Arc
Quickly measure the radius, length, and angle of an arc using the ROI Arc tool. This is ideal for curved PCB edges, casing arcs, or gear curves.
How to Use:
- Capture an image and open it in DinoCapture 3.0.
- Select the ROI Arc tool to start measuring.
- Create an ROI Arc box around the targeted arc.
- The ROI examines the edge points within the ROI arc box.
- The software instantly measures and displays the result.

3. ROI Circle – Measure Area, Circumference, and Radius of a Circular Object
Quickly measure the area, circumference, and radius of circular objects using the ROI Circle tool. This is ideal for components like holes, lenses, or washers.
How to Use:
- Capture an image and open it in DinoCapture 3.0.
- Select the ROI Circle tool.
- Create a solid ROI circle over the object and a dashed circle outside the target.
- The software detects the edge between the solid and dashed circles and instantly displays the measurements.

Quickly measure angles within a selected region using the ROI Angle tool. This is ideal for pipe joints, mechanical component edges, or PCB angles.

- Capture an image and open it in DinoCapture 3.0.

- Create the first ROI box, then the second ROI box over the desired angle.
- The software instantly detects the angle and displays the measurement.

Quickly measure the radius of rounded or curved corners using the ROI Roundover tool. This is ideal for fillets, rounded PCB corners, or curved casing edges.

- Select the ROI Roundover tool.
- Create the first ROI box, then the second ROI box, around the curved corner.
- The software instantly detects the curvature and displays the radius.
